QV Bioelectronics wins £860k funding for its innovative brain tumour treatment

QV Bioelectronics, creators of an innovative surgically implanted Electric Field Therapy (EFT) device for the treatment of brain tumours, has been awarded a £860,000 grant under the Combined Investor Partnerships Award. This follow a successful £2m Pre-Series A fundraising round in January 2023, which included a number of angel investors. 

The award from Innovate UK takes the total amount of grant funding awarded to QV to £1.8m, which includes an ongoing Innovate UK Biomedical Catalyst Award and previous support from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Innovate UK SMART.

Venture Capital firm, QVentures, has made a pre-seed fund investment into Presentient Technologies, a software platform developing innovative tools for companies running clinical trials. The funding round was led by QVentures with participation from Episode1 and industry angels.

Belfast-based cancer diagnostics company GenoME Diagnostics has closed a £1.4 million funding round with investment from QUBIS, the commercialisation arm of Queen’s University, Co-Fund NI (managed by Clarendon Fund Managers) and Deepbridge Capital.

CanSense raises £1.5m for blood test to detect early-stage bowel cancer

CanSense - a Swansea company which has developed a blood test that aims to save lives by diagnosing bowel cancer at an early stage - has raised £1.5m from Mercia, the Development Bank of Wales and liquid biopsy company Nonacus.

CanSense’s test, which combines laser spectroscopy with artificial intelligence, is faster, less expensive and less invasive than a colonoscopy procedure and more acceptable for patients than a faecal blood detection kit. It could help detect bowel cancer at an early stage when it is much easier to treat and the chance of survival is much higher.

24 Haymarket backs £10m funding for patient engagement platform DrDoctor

YFM has led a £10m investment into healthtech company DrDoctor along with Ananda Impact Ventures and 24 Haymarket

DrDoctor was founded in 2012 by Tom Whicher, Rinesh Amin and Perran Pengelly and provides digital care solutions to increase communication and engagement between patients and clinicians, managing 25 per cent of NHS outpatient appointments.

Innitius closes a €1.8 million financing round

SPAIN: Innitius, the Spanish startup focused on improving diagnostics for women's health, has closed a €1.8 million financing round led by Clave Capital and Nara Capital in which most of the investors who had previously backed the company have also joined.  Created in 2017 and headquartered in Bilbao, Innitius aims to improve the health and quality of life of millions of pregnant women and newborns by reducing the impact of pathologies such as preterm birth, induction of birth or cervical cancer in our society.
