Climate tech investment grows at 5x the VC market rate over 7 years says PwC

According to new research by PwC, VC and corporate investment in startups developing technology enabled solutions to climate change, and the transformation to net zero emissions, grew at a faster rate than VC investment as a whole between 2013 - 2019. In that time, US$60 billion of early stage capital was invested globally into startups contributing to tackling the net zero challenge.

Finance Durham Fund invests £250,000 in Power Roll

Finance Durham Fund has invested £250,000 in Power Roll, a developer of ultra-low-cost and lightweight flexible film for energy generation and storage. The investment through Finance Durham, which is managed by Maven Capital Partners, will support construction of a solar film pilot plant in County Durham, further improve the efficiency of Power Roll’s solar film technology and help commercialise its capacitor technology with its joint venture partner.

MarketFinance awarded £10m grant to bring choice and competition in supporting more businesses

Fintech business lender MarketFinance has been awarded a £10m grant from the Capability and Innovation Fund (CIF), announced by Banking Competition Remedies Ltd (BCR). The grant will be used to bring more choice and competition to the business lending industry

MarketFinance, a household name in the UK business community, has provided over £3b in invoice finance and business loans to thousands of UK businesses since 2011. They were accredited to lend under the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS), providing term loans from £50,001 to £150,000 and revolving credit facilities from £50,001 to £5 million to UK SMEs.

Playfair and Tech Nation expand initiative to support female founders

Playfair Capital and Tech Nation have joined forces to expand their nationwide initiative to improve access to funding and mentors for female founders with two special events taking place on 5th and 12th November.  Female founders from across the UK will have the opportunity to meet four investors during one hour of remote office hours to discuss their tech business idea, ask for advice, pitch for investment and find a mentor.

31 companies join Tech Nation’s Fintech programme as the UK leads fintech in Europe

Tech Nation, the growth platform for tech companies and leaders, announces the 31 tech companies that have been selected to join the Fintech Cohort 3.0, in conjunction with revealing new data that shows the UK is leading fintech in Europe. 

The cohort includes companies from across the fintech sector; operating in areas such as: insurance, regtech, open banking and digital ID. This year’s cohort features a high proportion of insurtechs, at 20%; with this being the first year that insurtech companies qualified for the programme. It reflects the strong growth of insurtech as a sub-segment of fintech in recent years.

UK investment banking fees at 4-year low says Refinitiv

Investment banking fees generated in the UK total £3.3 billion so far during 2020, 5% less than the value recorded at this time last year and the lowest year-to-date total since 2016 according to research by Refinitiv.
